Worship…what does it mean? Webster’s dictionary gives us a few ideas. It says to honor or respect, or an act of paying divine honors to God. Wikipedia says it's an act of religious devotion usually directed towards a deity. The term worship can also be used to mean idolize, as a woman worships her husband. The word is derived from an old English word worthscipe meaning worthiness, or to give “worth” to something.
Worship can be a lot of things to different people. I believe we need to look for our definition in God’s word. God warned us about idolatry. In Exodus 23:24-25 we read, “Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces. Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water.” We must put God first in our lives, and not allow anything or anyone else to come before Him.
If we love the Lord our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength, then we will LIVE a life of “WORSHIP.” Psalm 100:2 says, “Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” Now you can see why leading worship is my passion.
In His love & service,
David
